Help You Accept Your Imperfections

Help You Accept Your Imperfections

'Nobody's perfect' is a memorable line from the movie 'Some Like It Hot'. It humorously reflects the reality that we often have to settle for less than perfection. The concept of 'perfection' is subjective, making it difficult to achieve. Perfection, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

The Idea of Perfection

Every culture and era has its own definition of what true beauty is. In one century, a soft, plump woman's body might have been considered to be the epitome of feminine beauty. In another, a lean, toned body might mean perfection. In some eras, blonde-haired women are considered to be the most attractive. So we see a lot of false blondes going around. In other eras, auburn-haired women would have been considered to be the beauties of the day. We can't all have the same hair colour or body type. So some women are labelled by everyone as beautiful while others have to accept their place in the shade. But what is true beauty? The concept differs from era to era.

Who Is The Fairest?

We've all heard the story of Snow White. The wicked queen, outraged at the young girl's youthful freshness, which outshines her own beauty, arranges to have the young girl murdered. The truth is, while older women may have to do some work to maintain their youthful looks, young girls have that youthful freshness by right. It's a natural law and nothing can change that. Some women look very beautiful when they are young. Whether they can maintain their beauty in later years depends on how they live. If they eat a healthy diet, get enough sleep and exercise and don't drink too much alcohol, they probably will maintain their beauty for years to come. Many of the so-called 'plain girls' can eclipse their more beautiful sisters in later life. This can happen because of lifestyle choices.

Be the Best You Can Be

Remember Oscar Wilde's play, "The Importance of Being Ernest"? Gwendolen, one of the leading ladies, is told by her suitor, Mr. Worthing, that she is perfect. Rather than succumbing to his flattery, she tells him she hopes that she's not perfect. She says that perfection would leave no room for improvement and that she intends to develop in many different directions. We should always strive to improve ourselves and to develop our skills. We should always try to be the best we can be.

Embrace Who You Are

Perhaps the biggest secret to ageless beauty is to embrace your age, whatever it is. Suppose you're a woman in your fifties who would like to look younger. Let's say the current fashion in cosmetics is silver eyeshadow. Even if all the young girls are wearing it, it doesn't mean you should. If you think you can carry it off, fine, go ahead. Otherwise, it's better to stick to something more age appropriate. It's far better to look like a beautiful fifty-year-old woman than to look like a faded old-timer, desperately trying to turn back the clock. Embrace who you are and what you are, wherever you are. You will look the better for it.
